My Qualifications & Leadership Experience
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Personal, Leadership and Executive Coaching from Kingstown College, Dublin. I am a leading Mentor for Sport Ireland on their hugely successful M-power programme. I am an EMCC Accredited Coach and Mentor. I worked with World Rugby for over twenty years, working alongside global leaders in an intensely competitive industry.
I subsequently set up my own business, successfully implementing many of the strategies and methods I had developed in my career up to that point. My extensive, diverse experience of coaching and mentoring throughout my professional career has given me a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals and organisations. I have also learned how to identify and provide solutions for these challenges.
I am passionate about helping people realise their potential. I work in an environment of trust, transparency and honesty to support positive change.
The way we see ourselves and our place in the world around us can limit us. Opening yourself up to new roles and new ways of thinking can redefine the parameters of what you can achieve.
Coaching Approach And Principles
I base my leadership coaching around a few key principles:
- Coaching is about supporting change and action
- Development coaching focuses on the client’s journey – in a way, it becomes their unique journey of self-discovery for them.
- The client sets the plan and will have unconditional positive regard.
- Working alongside each client to enable them to get the best of themselves and from my services.
- Partner with them on the journey to unlock and maximize their potential.
As a leadership coach, I will provide constant support throughout processes of positive change. While I will challenge you to push yourself to new heights, I will do this with detailed, encouraging advice based on my training and experience.
You will have total control over this process. My role is not to provide a generic roadmap or program for you to follow, but to provide you with the tools necessary to define your own effective leadership style as a manager, for the benefit of your teams.
Tailored Coaching
Many coaches have a standard approach that they use. This is not how I work. I provide personally tailored coaching and training programs for each of my clients to bring out their unique strengths. I will collaborate closely with you to develop a strategy that will help you achieve clearly defined goals.
Comprehensive Strategies
I provide comprehensive, detailed strategies rather than vague concepts. Rather than using a generic, “one size fits all” approach, I will work with you on a clear roadmap to get you to where you want to be based on your strengths.
We will identify specific objectives and actively work towards them through performance coaching. You will see tangible results as you build your leadership skills consistently and sustainably.
The Role Of A Leadership Coach
The core roles of leadership coaching are to empower the client’s development, helping them be the best leader they can be. The coach is there to support, not replace or overshadow them. They can expect their coach to ask questions that help them discover new understandings and options for action. Thus, the leadership coach will aim to help them to understand what they are capable of achieving.
Here are my roles as a leadership coach for my clients, throughout my many years of experience in the field:
- Provide an unbiased and confidential sounding board.
- Help them to see their blind spots.
- Help them to stand back from their normal perspective and environment.
- Ask pertinent questions and actively listen to answers.
- Provide an opportunity to see things differently.
- Give feedback and support to raise awareness around challenges or opportunities in a client’s life.
At the beginning of my leadership coaching, I will work with you to define and understand what you want yourself or your business to be. We will then practically and strategically work out how to get there. We will always focus on positive change and practical strategies.
Whatever role you occupy, we can confront the challenges you face and help you achieve your objectives. Leadership coaching is not only about helping you to achieve professional results. It can also help you develop your confidence, improve your focus and decision making, and embrace your life more fully. Opening up new ways of thinking and fresh perspectives can remove many of the limitations you face in your life.
New Ways Of Thinking Lead To New Solutions.
I will help you to see challenges as creative opportunities and not roadblocks. My experience means that I will understand your objectives and challenges, but I will always tailor my approach to you as an individual. We will work in a safe, trusting and reflective environment.
If you are ready to begin your coaching journey, contact Myra McGlynn today and we will get to work.
FAQ
What makes a great coach? What skills do I need?
My answer is that the best coaches are those who have successfully faced similar challenges themselves and can relate to what you face. Someone who has taken their leadership journey and found the right route map for themselves.
How will I know my coaching leadership style?
I will help you to understand what your leadership style is and why it works for you. We will work together to improve any areas that may need development.
Why is leadership development important?
Leadership development is important for individuals, leaders and organizations because it contributes to the success of each one. The more effective leaders are in their role, the more successful they will be as an individual. Effective leadership means that the organization benefits because people are led well, performance is high, and a clear and defining company culture has been developed.
Who should consider doing this?
Anyone can benefit from a leadership coach. But people who are already leaders or managers would benefit the most because they often need help to understand how they can be most effective.
What does a day look like? How long will it take?
Leadership coaching sessions are usually once a week and can last from an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the level of your need.
Every leadership coaching session is different, but in general, you can expect that we will spend some time with you talking about the current challenges you are facing. We will then look at your actions plan for the next steps, ways to learn and grow in the future, and how best to maintain change.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of leadership coaching are many. The most important for you will depend on your level of need. I have found that after a few sessions, people usually experience less stress, improved focus and more creativity in their work and life; which leads to increased confidence in their personal lives too. They become better at problem-solving, making decisions and taking action.
People often gain clarity in their life choices. They may find it easier to set out what they want from their lives and begin achieving that more efficiently.
What is the target outcome?
One of my key tasks as a leadership coach is to help my client see what they can’t see for themselves. I do this by asking the right questions and giving encouraging feedback and support to encourage them in the direction of their choice.
I will give you a plan that we can work together on, with milestones along the way to keep you focused and on track. We will also discuss how we can measure the success of the coaching journey so that you can see significant progress being made.
What set me apart from other leadership coaches?
My extensive experience as a senior leader and my qualification in coaching psychology means that I understand leadership development from both an individual and organizational perspective.
I have coached many different types of leaders across all levels of an organization, helping them to become more effective at what they do.
How much does it cost?
Each coaching journey is tailored to the individual. You can expect to be charged for each hour that you are coached, but I am happy to discuss any other arrangements should they suit your financial situation better. For example, you could try three sessions at half price to see what coaching would be like for you.
If you are thinking about the next step in your life, whether it is professional or personal, leadership coaching could be for you.
